Karibuni is a Swahili word that can be translated “Welcome Everybody”. It’s also the name of the Breakfast, After-school and Holiday childcare provision at Grove CE Primary School.
Karibuni at Grove is run by Karibuni Children’s Clubs Ltd, an independent childcare provider owned by us - Ruth & Paul Haynes. The company was founded in 2016 to help meet the growing demand for wraparound care for primary school children locally. In June 2018 OFSTED rated the setting we ran at Hanney as “good” in our first inspection.
Ruth’s vision is for parents to have access to affordable high-quality childcare in small settings that offer continuity of care from dedicated staff who appreciate the importance of play, want to get to know the children well, will put children’s needs first and help them flourish. Before studying for the Early-Years qualification she needed to start Karibuni, Ruth worked as a teaching assistant in Wantage. Before our daughter was born, Ruth was a florist. She also has a lifetime’s experience of church-based children’s work.
Paul’s vision is first and foremost a happy wife! But he loves being with children. He’s been working at Karibuni since it opened in 2016 - although he managed to spend a year as a teaching assistant in that time too. Before that he ran a church-based charity in Reading working with schools to bring RE to life, and a long time ago he did something involving physics and computers.
Karibuni closes at the end of December 2020.
